The character trait of January was GRATITUDE. Each group was to show gratitude in some way. The 7th grade students wrote a letter of invitation to Columbiana's Mayor, Mr. Stancil Handley, offering to treat him to lunch. They were thrilled when he graciously accepted their invitation and were stunned to learn that Mayor Handley was touched by their letter.
The 7th graders chose the local Tin Top Barbecue and each brought money to cover the Mayor's meal. Students weren't the only ones giving gift, though. Our students were the first to receive the new Mayor's Pin along with other Columbiana memorabilia. Mayor Handley and his assistant, Elizabeth Smith, even arranged for students to be picked up in the iconic Columbiana Trolley. How fun!
We are grateful to our wonderful Mayor!
We would like to extend appreciation to Mayor Handley, Ms. Smith, the Trolley driver, and Tin Top Barbecue.
